Lifting or enhancing the chin with the help of a prosthesis is a simple but very effective way to balance the facial features. By inserting a chin implant the facial profile becomes more balanced. Jaw implants are also possible, only a surgeon can inform you about jaw implants after a thorough assessment of your needs.

Suitable candidates for chin implant

If you are bothered by your facial features related to the shape of your chin (recessed chin, squared or pointed chin, fleshy neck, prominent nose) then a chin or jaw implant could be a solution for you.

Both men and women can make equally good candidates for chin implants, but their teeth and jaw should be functioning well. If the chin is mildly weak and the teeth and jaw are functioning properly, the candidate can benefit the most from chin implants and achieve the desired aesthetic look.

During the consultation the surgeon will determine whether you are a suitable candidate for a chin implant. He will assess which type, shape and form of prosthesis is best for you.

A chin implant procedure

Chin correction surgery with implants can be performed on an outpatient basis under intravenous sedation. After the procedure, you rest for a while in one of our patient rooms. That evening you are fit and well enough to return home. The surgeon can usually insert the implant (chin prosthesis) via the underside of the chin or via the inside of the mouth.

What to expect

A few weeks after the operation the chin and face may still be a little swollen. It will take a few weeks before any bruising disappears. Swelling and irregularities usually disappear about 2 to 3 weeks later. Sometimes a patient may experience a loss of sensation around the operated area. Generally, this disappears by itself in the weeks following the chin operation.

The definite result is only visible a few weeks after the procedure, when all the swelling has gone. A scar on the inside of the mouth is invisible. An incision under the chin is barely noticeable.
